Knitting Victory!
In their illustrated talk Knitting Victory!, Stacey Barker and Molly McCullough will explore some of the many connections between knitting and war. They will discuss topics such as First World War comforts, Second World War knitting patterns, the role of the Red Cross, gender and wartime knitting, and more.
Dr. Stacey Barker is Historian, Arts and Military History at the Canadian War Museum. Her areas of research include war art, women and war, and food in wartime. She has curated many exhibitions, most recently Outside the Lines: Women Artists and War. She received her doctorate in history from the University of Ottawa.
Molly McCullough is the Director of Conservation and Collection Management at Ingenium – Canada’s Museums of Science and Innovation. She has worked in national museums and heritage institutions for over twenty years, and has extensive experience in collections, exhibitions, and curatorial practice.
Barker and McCullough are co-authors (with Krista Cooke) of Material Traces of War: Stories of Canadian Women and Conflict, 1914-1939.
